They are still pushing at least security updates to 6, as can be seen at http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-package-announce As to your problem with yum... I have no clue. Is this just me, or is that a Redhat > policy? http://spevack.livejournal.com/33032.html FC6 will reach end of life on December 7th. No more updates will be built for FC6 as of that date. No more new packages will be added to the FC6 repository as of the release of F8 which is slated for later this week. I'd have to see the details of your yum session to understand the problem you are having with yum currently. -jef"current Fedora Board member"spaleta From doug.knight at uaf.edu Tue Nov 6 11:39:14 2007 From: doug.knight at uaf.edu (Doug Knight) Date: Tue Nov 6 11:40:34 2007 Subject: [Uaflug] Fedora Core 6 In-Reply-To: <4a934456cd6a54e8a68d9d3430ef51f9@mail.cerebellum.biz> References: <4a934456cd6a54e8a68d9d3430ef51f9@mail.cerebellum.biz> Message-ID: <4730D0F2.804@uaf.edu> Christine, If yum is configured to use a mirrorlist, you may have downloaded the package list from a server that was just synced, then been directed to a different server that didn't have the packages yet when you tried to do the install. I've had this problem with out of date mirrors before. You'll usually be directed to a different server each time yum is run. If this is the case, you can just keep trying to install the packages until it works, or in your fedora.repo, comment out the mirrorlist, uncomment the baseurl for downlaod.fedora.redhat.com, then ``yum clear all'', followed by ``yum list''. Make sure you still see the packages, and do your ``yum install ''. Then be nice and point it back at the mirrors when you're done, or point it at a local mirror such as ModZer0 (I'm sure someone on the list knows what the url for ModZer0's fedora mirror is). The problem with yum is resolved - while following Doug Knight's advice, I tried to reconstruct what went wrong but can only say that it works now. I take it that this only puts the problem off for another month or so - if I discover that I'm missing another rpm that I need, I won't be able to download it? At that point I'll look into Centos - I rarely change my RHES version on the other server anyway (version 4 should be good enough for a while). Also note that Fedora Project builds a repository of addons for RHEL and Centos called EPEL. EPEL 4 works for RHEL 4 and Centos 4, while EPEL 5 works with RHEL and Centos 5. Just to note, EPEL follows fedora contribution policy pretty closely, so its possible to participate as a package maintainer for addon packages not yet available in EPEL. -jef From themadcellist at gmail.com Mon Nov 26 12:23:18 2007 From: themadcellist at gmail.com (Paul Swanson) Date: Mon Nov 26 12:24:51 2007 Subject: [Uaflug] LUG wiki Message-ID: <6f5baa7a0711261323v61fcf309o12ac9bab4e3812cd@mail.gmail.com> I just deleted 440+ pages of spam on the UAF lug wiki.
