Just as another sample, I've been in Fairbanks since '97 and don't use a
power conditioner at home, never lost a PSU either.
Perhaps that's a function of PSU quality? I have been using high end PSUs
($140+, active PFC, etc.) and never ran into any trouble.
As far as buying an S939 board, I'd just go with eBay or places like the
trade forum at Andtech (
http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.aspx?catid=45&entercat=y ) where you
can get a guaranteed to be working S939 board for like $20 shipped (to Lower
48, till you tell them that shipping a USPS Flat Rate box to AK isn't more
expensive, hence the term 'Flat Rate'). For a moment I was considering to
offer Joyce the board I am currently using, but it's just like my old car,
the board works, and the Opteron 185 sitting in it runs everything I need to
do just fine (including Vista 64), no need to upgrade.
