Re: [lug] Comport hub?

A hub, but of what sort...

How many pins do each of the connectors have? That almost sounds
like a parallel printer port sharing device to me. Something like
the Logical Connection devices that techs used to loath.

The pins would be DB-25 connectors. In your case, 1 Female and 5 male.

What we commonly call a "hub" now-a-days has RJ-45 connectors on it
(Large Telephone jacks).

I don't know what you are willing to purchase, but the best overall
solution would be to go Ethernet. You would need to get a PCMCIA
Ethernet card. I've seen them as low as $60 out on eBay and
Pricewatch.
Then get a cheap Ethernet 10BaseT hub, I'd suggest at least a 4 port,
because you never know when you'll want to connect 4 computers
together. For two computers, the cost of putting Ethernet cards and
getting a hub and cables should come to under $100. Hubs and PCI/ISA
ethernet cards can be gotten for around $20 each. The PCMCIA card
will be the most expensive and probably hard to find used ones or
ones that people are willing to sell them cheap.

The cheapest way to transfer files from one computer to another is
going to be through a serial null-modem cable. Little more
complicated for software for some computers, but the serial cable
should be able to be gotten for under $10 even locally. If you can
build cables yourself, you can probably get by with a cable (standard
serial cable) you already have and wacking the end off and putting a
new end on wired as a null-modem.
