[lug] OT: seminar request
Hello all,
I'm involved in the Alaska Summer Research Academy - essentially a
science summercamp, though there is more info at www.uaf.edu/csem/asra.
We've got about 20 high school students coming to campus next week and
we're looking to fill in a few 30 minute to 1 hour seminars throughout
the week. Our schedule is rather weak in computer science material
(though I believe there is a tour of the super computer center planned,
at least). Anyone interested in giving a brief talk? Very general, aimed
at 8th-11th grade students, anything from why they might want to consider
CS as a college major, a particular aspect of CS in general or Linux in
particular or maybe how you've made use of computers in your research. I
could give one about maintaining computers in my lab (make sure it's
plugged in, make sure your advisor turned it on...) but I think we're
hoping for something a bit beyond that, yet not quite the level of
building your own kernel, or the pros and cons of vi versus emacs.
Thanks in advance.
Jason
