Constitution

Article IThe name of the organization shall be the UAF Linux Users Group, and hereafter shall be referred to as the UAFLUG Article IIThe purpose of the UAFLUG is to provide support, education, and outreach to those interested in the Linux operating system for computers. Article IIISection 1. To remain a member in good standing all member must be enrolled in at least three credits at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Membership for the spring semester shall be valid until the beginning of the next fall semester. Section 2. Membership selection is open to everyone without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, status as a Vietnam era or disabled veteran, marital status, changes in marital status, pregnancy or parenthood pursuant to applicable state and federal laws. Article IVSection 1. The positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall be maintained within the UAFLUG. Section 2. Members shall volunteer or be nominated for each of the offices from Section 1. In the event of multiple volunteers or nominees a vote shall be held and the volunteer/nominee receiving the most votes shall assume the office. Section 3. Any member is eligible to volunteer or be nominated for office. Section 4. For now, the responsibilities of the officers of UAFLUG shall remain informal and undefined. Section 5. In the event that an officer should be found to be unavailable when needed, a new officer may be chosen as described in Section 2. Section 6. The officer selection process described in Section 2 should be repeated at the end of every UAF academic year. Article VSection 1. A faculty advisor shall be chosen by the unanimous decision of the officers listed in Article IV Section 1. Section 2. Duties of the faculty advisor shall for now remain informal. Article VIMeetings of the UAFLUG will be held by arrangement of the members. The official forum for deciding on physical meetings for the UAFLUG shall be the groups list-serve. All official club business shall take place on the list-serve, including votes and nominations Article VIIActivities of the UAFLUG will be determined on the clubs list-serve. Article VIIIAny UAFLUG member may propose modification to this constitutional document as defined in Article IX. Article IXSection 1. Most activities of UAFLUG shall be held informally; however, the procedure in Section 2 may be used when an official opinion must be established by UAFLUG as a group, or in the case of a serious disagreement among the membership that can not be resolved informally. Section 2. The UAFLUG shall make official actions according to the following procedure: 1. Any member in good standing may propose an action. 2. Any member in good standing may second an action. 3. The secretary shall acknowledge any action seconded, and shall forthwith announce a vote; a vote shall be considered active for seven days exactly, following the announcement of the vote by the secretary. 4. Any member in good standing may vote by sending an e-mail with a "yes" or "no" response to the original proposal, while a vote is active. 5. An action shall be considered official if a majority of the votes recieved by the secretary are "yes" votes.
